21 out of the 22 colours in the COLORBOND® steel Classic and Contemporary colour range incorporate our unique Thermatech® solar reflectance technology1, designed to reflect more of the sun's heat on hot sunny days by optimising solar reflectance properties.

Thermal comfort

Combining COLORBOND® steel with Thermatech® technology with appropriate insulation can help buildings maintain greater thermal comfort all year round. In the summer, Thermatech® technology can help your roof and your building stay cooler by reflecting more of the sun's heat.1 In winter, the "cooling" effect of a roof made with COLORBOND® steel with Thermatech® technology is greatly reduced compared to summer because the sun is lower in the sky, and days are shorter and often overcast.

Cooler in the summer heat

It's widely known that lighter colours are better at reflecting heat. With Thermatech® solar reflectance technology, even the darker colours in the COLORBOND® steel range have solar reflective properties which may help your building stay cooler. Thermatech® technology is designed to reflect more of the sun's heat on hot sunny days, which can mean less dependence on air-conditioning1.

Reduced thermal stress on roof

COLORBOND® steel with Thermatech® technology absorbs less heat from the sun resulting in reduced stresses on your roof and its materials1.

1COLORBOND® steel in the Classic and Contemporary colour range feature Thermatech® technology (except Night Sky®). Thermatech® technology may not be available in other colours, and is not included in SUPERDURA® Stainless steel, COLORBOND® Metallic steel, COLORBOND® Coolmax® steel or COLORBOND® Intramax® steel. See colorbond.com/colour for more information. Results will depend on roof colour, level and location of insulation, type and location of building shape and function.
